Eddie, the point is that there’s enough strong arguments on all sides to make a strong case for a great compromise on immigration, not just either “immigration reform” that lacks a mechanism to lower further illegal immigration, nor deporting tons of people.
But with determining if Trump can unite America, I highly doubt his ability to compromise, to any extent, on immigration, let alone any other issues.
I think it’s pretty clear how Trump would untie America. He’s already started. Hillary doesn’t seem particularly aggressive in this regard.
Kill themselves.
A national campaign to promote dyslexia! Now, that’s original thinking!
Certainly for the s + m and David-Copperfield-model-hopefuls demographic(s).
If you’re kinda into bondage, but S+M squicks you out, should you mention that in the ad? Asking for a friend…
Let’s just assume that the left is on board with this. (For all intents and purposes, they are.) There is a reasonable compromise to be made.
How do you get this asshole on board with it? How do you find compromise with people who have been taught that they are right, that compromise is evil, and that the enemy is the devil? How do you find compromise with people like the republicans in congress, let alone their supporters?
there will be some hardcore types on immigration who nothing short of banning anyone of Mexican background, current citizen or not, from the US. They’re not going to be won anyway. The pool of people who will be won will be the kind of people who aren’t hardcore on the issue, but who make Trump come close to Hillary on the issue of immigration, when asked by issue. What could be done is finish the fence that was voted on in the 2000s, and deliberately make it a large fence, not a wall, so as to avoid letting Trump troll for credit. Make it big, and above and underground. The people who keep complaining will then show themselves to just be malcontents. Like the people you’re scared would derail any action whatsoever. Then, we deal with those who are already here. They could get a path to citizenship, basically amnesty, but in exchange for a fine, due by a certain date. That’s so there is something the illegals have to exchange, but not a huge fine in bad faith. They get placed behind legal immigrants in terms of line, but get to stay physically here. Not everyone is gonna be happy. But when immigration finally gets solved, it will heal a big wound in the electorate, as well as likely take out Trump’s ability to troll after the election. As long as ZERO is done whatsoever, he and other GOP hardnoses on it will hold Glenn Beck style “restoring honor” rallies.
What President Clinton will need to do is address the issues that cause people to vote for Trump. America has failed a LOT of people.
A good start would be implementing full UHC. Then crack down on abuse of immigration by corporations.
I think Clinton is going to be dealing with not only a republican house but also a slight majority senate as well, and I don’t necessarily see that as a bad thing. I remember the 1990s when the republicans waged a jihad against Bill Clinton after the Lewinsky scandal broke, and while they managed to retain control of congress, they ended up losing a lot of seats they otherwise would have won. In fact that was the beginning of the end of Newt Gingrich.
Hillary Clinton can use political judo against her enemies. Turn their aggression into their weakness. People want government to function. They want nominees on the Supreme Court. Even some of those who will vote for Trump and don’t like her very much want her to have a cabinet and want a functional treasury and defense department. Republicans would be foolish to assume that they have a right wing mandate – they don’t. But they probably think they do and that could be their undoing.
As I said before, nobody will bring out the nastiness in republicans like Hillary Rodham Clinton. When the spotlight is on republicans instead of the two candidates, when people see how utterly sick some of these people are, I think that will tilt the advantage back to Clinton. Let them self-destruct. That’s why you already have some senators quietly whispering that they might not shut down her nominees after all. The smarter GOP senators get it, but most in the party probably don’t.
They’ll start a fresh war, of course.
I realize OP turned this into a joke thread from the get-go, but do you really think that, having successfully installed his “Manchurian candidate,” the new Czar of All the Russias would want to kill him? :smack:
It’s not too far fetched for Trump to give a uniting message along the lines of:
*
“I am putting America first, and that is all of America - rural, urban, rich, poor, east, west. I am making America great again - we will no longer succumb to trade deals or countries trying to *** us over, we will boost jobs everywhere in America, I want ALL of us to have fat paychecks and good jobs and strong robust industry coast to coast, we will make America win, America first, America America America.”*
The fact that you would even associate, for even a single solitary second, Moore with Duke as if they’re on equal levels, and compare BLM with the KKK, shows just how deep into the alt-right shit pit you’ve fallen into. When it comes to harnessing crazy, racist misogyny for political gains, the modern GOP about equal to 1936 Germany. They haven’t started outright mass killing their opponents, but if Trump had been elected (yes, I consider his loss to have already happened), it wouldn’t have taken much to provoke it. You should take this joke thread to the Pit because it doesn’t belong in Elections.
Except the children of undocumented immigrants that are born here, right? Or liberals who disagree with you? WTF am I even responding to your joke thread for anyway? Your ideas are so shitty I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re a moderator on Free Republic
It appears to be a developing theme lately, an offer of peace through equivalence from the tighty rightys! A new dawning of unity and comity, generously offered for only a few minor concessions. We overlook their youthful indiscretions…massive voter suppression, the FBI injecting itself into our elections, a rigid and obstinate refusal to make any effort toward compromise and a relentless attempt to use legalistic shenanigans to undermine what little we have accomplished. Hey, mistakes were made!
And in return, they might just consider thinking about not trying to change the subject to what Horndog Bill was up to twenty fucking years ago!
Brothers and sisters, pals and gals, there’s new day a-dawning! They’ve seen the light and come to Jesus, hallelujah! Either that,or they’re scared shitless, their hair is on fire and their asses are catching!
Damned white of them!
What makes you think Trump supporters want UHC? Trump himself certainly hasn’t been shy about his dislike of Obamacare, and there’s very little support for UHC among Republicans in general.
At this point, I think a newly-elected President Clinton and the Democratic party have to realize that they’re not going to be the preferred party of the white working class for the foreseeable future. If they want to offer UHC and entitlement spending on general principles, fine, but it’s not going to get them any of Trump’s vote. Anyone voting for an incompetent, inexperienced, racist, misogynist demagogue like Trump is not going to switch over to a center-left party because of health care reform, even if it’s reform that helps them personally.
I got no problem with natural born children of illegal immigrants staying here. I don’t know where you got the idea that I did.
You’re certainly not in agreement with Trump then:
that’s right, Trump’s stance on that is one of the reasons I couldn’t vote for him.
