Getting some windows installed and I got to wondering. Anyone have any factual information about how much windows are marked up?
Not looking for specifics (I understand that there are variances) but is there a sort of “general” figure that exists?
In my case they are midrange energy star compliant windows (not top of the line but not the cheapest either).
You’ll have to explain what you mean by marked up. Do you mean the markup over the wholesale price that the installer will stick you with? Don’t most window installers usually quote you an inclusive price (window plus installation)? You could compare that price to whatever the retail price per window would be at Home Depot or the like.
I don’t have a percentage, but I do know that is where lumberyards make most of their money. They will sell the wood at cost if they can get a large window order out of it. Same thing with kitchen cabinets.
