How much did a medieval Battle Axe weigh?

I’ve been thinking about expanding my collection of medieval weapons to include battle axes. I have strayed away from these in the past because they were A) hard to come by, and B) weighed too much to put in my glass case at home. However, I have endeavored to make a new glass case the parameters of which I have control over. Meaning I can make it strong enough to house things 40 lb and higher on the wall without breaking the glass they will rest on.
Does anyone have a good resource for medieval battle axes? Weights, variations, nationalities who used them??? Thanx ~P

If you’ve collected swords before then you should have no problem. A typical two-handed longsword might weigh 2.5 to 3.5 pounds. A typical axe would weigh in at about 3 pounds. Even the large axes favored by the huscarles would weigh in at less than 5 pounds (IIRC).

So you should be fine as long as you’re not collecting stainless steel or poorly made props, but rather historically accurate pieces.

As for whom is making axes these days? I don’t know, but I’ll see if I can find something for you tonight and post it here.

I always collect historically accurate material. I even have some originals in my collection…

Well jeez, don’t tease us! What have you got? I have some items from Windlass but only a few. If you do get a nice historically accurate battle axe, let us know all about it.
