I am willing to pay up to $100 for a pair of jeans, if I love them and they look great and they require minimal tailoring and they’re at least $150 MSRP, because I never, NEVER pay full price. Marshalls and TJ Maxx are great places to shop for jeans. They regularly have Levis, Express, and AE for $12 - $15ish, Michael Kors, Hilfiger and Calvin Klein for $25 - $30ish, and higher end (R&R, Joe’s, SFAM) for $70 - $100ish. I recently got a pair of Hudsons at TJs for $40! They also have a juniors department, which is great for slightly stretchier, slightly shorter, running-errands-in-sneakers jeans.
I tend to take the opposite tack, at least for summer (obviously I’m willing to pay more for sweaters and boots than for babydoll shirts and flip flops!), but I think that’s largely a chick thing. Really good, comfortable, flattering jeans are hard to find and worth their weight in gold, but I can pick up a cute shirt at H&M for $10.
I’m intrigued. You’ve given some good information already; if there’s anything more you can add, I’d be interested to hear it. I have to admit, all the misspellings on the site are spooking me a bit.
The other night I was out at a bar, listening to a band with my gf. She went off to use visit the ladies room. At some point, I noticed the behind of a woman who was talking to people by me. Not wanting my gf to catch me looking, I turned away and awaited her return. But, I took another quick peek just as the woman turned, and I realized I was oogling my gf’s ass all along. That is why she spends $$ on jeans!
I’m not concerned about longevity. What I wear now (when I wear sometheing other than dress pants or shorts) lasts an extrodinarily long time. I’m much more concerned about staining a $200 pair of pants vs. a $20 pair of pants.
Tall Girl, if there’s one near you. My inseam falls into the gap between almost everyone else and Tall Girl.
For me, the aforementioned cowboy stores are closer than Walmart or Kohl’s, so I’ll be heading to one of them first. Sleeps With Butterflies, the make your own jeans site looks interesting and a definite possibility. Usually, I like to look at & feel fabric before buying it, but these would fit. Fit is good.
I pay on average $60/pair from Gap because they have x-long tall size available online. Wish they had better colors in the long and lean style though, it’s the only one I really like there. If I had money I’d pay more for jeans if I could find nicer ones. I wear jeans most days so they are the staple of my wardrobe.
I usually pay about $15 a pair. I’ve gone as high as $30 or $40 before though. I’m still having trouble wrapping my head around spending $200 on a pair of jeans.
Spooked, huh? I realize businesses should be careful with spelling & grammar, but they’re making my jeans. If they were writing a paper for me, I’d be concerned.
I’m not really sure what else to tell you about the jeans. I guess I’d just emphasize that measuring yourself is the key to a good fit. I wouldn’t guess on anything.
They have different styles (ultra low rise to above the waist), different add-ons (pocket styles, patches, rips, embroidery, etc), and different washes.
For one pair I got the Brazilian Style and love it. The other two were just “regular” low rise. I believe with the add-ons I paid $80 for the Brazilian jeans. I didn’t do add-ons on the second and third pair, and they’re good too.
I have a couple of pictures of me in them, but of course they don’t show the jeans 100%. If you can see the legs, you can’t see the top. If you can see the top, the legs aren’t showing. Naturally!
I do have a hangup about it. My thinking is: their website is how they present their company to the world. They should have taken a little care with it.
Still, if they could be the answer to my lifelong quest for jeans, I might take a chance.
The most I’ve spent on jeans is $150, I think. On a pair of Tommy Hilfiger jeans. They ripped within a couple years, but I will say this - my ass has never looked better than it did in those jeans.
Those were the exception though. Usually I pay around $30-$50.
I’ll admit - I’ve paid a pretty penny for jeans but they have been worth it. They last me a long time and they just fit really well. And I definitely got my money’s worth with the amount of times that I wore them. I spend just as much on dresses that I only wear a few times and jeans I wear all the time - that’s how I justify it.
I’m a big fan of Levi’s and I usually find good deals at Kohl’s. I pay anywhere from $20-$36. I wouldn’t pay anything over $40 for a pair of jeans unless they induced a mind-blowing orgasm everytime I put them on.
About 10 years ago I had a pair of black ones. They were a little snug, but not super tight or anything like that. I used to wear them to work; since I often wore sport jackets in the office, it was a reasonably dressy look. This particular style was cut to fit about like 501s, but a little bit looser. The consistency of the fabric was fairly heavyweight denim, and the finish was onyx black, completely new-looking new jeans. There was no visible distressing or fading.
One day, after I had owned them for about a year, I was getting up from my desk at the end of the day, and I noticed something felt strange on my backside. Sure enough, they were split–and not directly up the seam, but about an inch away from it. I had no idea when it could have happened.
Yep, the whole gang of us had gone out to lunch that day. Did my pants split before, during, or after? I have no idea. I do know i was wearing a jacket that day that has a particularly long cut. It’s probably too long, but I like them that way.
I’m just happy to find jeans that fit me. I’m short (5’ tall) and small so things are usually either too long or too big in the waist. With vanity sizing running wild, they’ve made the sizes bigger so people who are the same size as they used to be can now by a size 1-2 sizes smaller. Who falls for this crap? Leave the sizing alone!
The jeans I had made are obviously the best fit for me, but I’ve also found Victoria’s Secret to be consistent in their sizing on jeans.
I got so tired of trying on jeans that each fit differently, I’m staying put with these two places.
I pay I guess about 40 or so for a pair from Lands End.
LE was, for a while, offering a custom-fit option where you’d provide your measurements and they’d customize them. That roughly doubled the price (my memory was it was about 70ish dollars at the time). I don’t know if they still do this.
I buy Lands End jeans pretty much exclusively because it means I don’t have to shop for them (in my book, ‘shop’ is a four-letter word). The problem I have with them is their longevity: for some reason, the crotch seams tend to wear out when everything else is still functional. I know, I know. The jokes just write themselves.
There is a ton of ignorance being thrown around in this thread.
For reference, I’ve spent anywhere between $3 for a pair of jeans at a thrift store and $520 for an exclusive run of Japanese ringspun selvage denim.
Buy quality and it will last. Forget Penneys, Kohl’s, etc. Invest once and you’ll have a nicer item of greater style and function. Diesel’s not of an appreciably greater quality than most mall brands, though it does have some brand name cache (long since tarnished among the cognoscenti, but it might get a rise out of someone with a passing interest).
For clarification, would this orgasm be affecting the wearer or the viewer? And if such a pair of jeans were available, what would you be willing to pay?
Your answer affects the future marketing of my line of VibroJeans.
