How much do you intend to spend on "the holidays" this year?

In all, how much do you intend to spend on “the holidays” (Hallowe’en, Thanksgiving, Christrmas, Hanukkah, Eid, Kwanzaa, New Years, etc.) this year.

Lessee - Halloween was zero. Thanksgiving, I made 3 pies, then drove to Mom’s and back - under $40. Christmas, we do a $10 wacky exchange on my side of the family. We’ll probably give my mom some wines from a local winery. We won’t be seeing my husband’s side this year, but we’ll probably send his folks some dining out gift cards. And we’re giving our daughter gas money to go to FL and back to visit her friends. All told, maybe $400.

Not exactly a holiday, but we’re going out to dinner on Friday for our 28th anniversary to a rather pricey (for us) place, so that’ll be another $100.

No decorations, no new clothes - all in all, a pretty frugal year. Again.

Nothing - have no money to spend.

Not too much this year. We just found out that my son lost his job yesterday so we’ll just give him some grocery money.

I’d truly rather just skip it this year all together, but not sure if my family will go for it.

I voted between $100.00 and $249.00. Smallest Christmas since I was very young.

I will be spending over a $1000 dollars, but most of that is going to be air travel, car rental, entertaining and kenneling for my dog. Gifts will probably be less than $200.

Between new computers for two of my guys, plane tickets for both of the big kids, and oh yeah! The two smaller girls might want something in their stockings… plus parents, brothers, niece, and nephew… and I’m hosting Christmas this year. Too damned much! Probably in the $3000 range.

The whole idea of buying crap for an exchange of other crap seems pointless to me. This feeling has come over me over the last 5 years, before that I happily bought and received crap.

$650+. $150 for my “big” gift (a gift card to Game Stop), and $400 for an airline ticket. I still need to pick up up a few small gifts.

Normally we don’t spend over a grand, but this year we’ve saved up for most of the cost of a new TV as a family gift. A couple hundred for the parents-in-law, then smaller things for nieces / nephews.

We finally set our budget for gifts this weekend and I tried to order our turkey but apparently in the last year my butcher went out of business. Don’t they know I count on them once a year? I’m a bad consumer :frowning: Since this is the year the kids spend Christmas day with us, it’s just the 4 of us. I actually think I like the years they spend Boxing day with us instead because we usually get their boyfriend and girlfriend as well.

And dammit! Now the truck needs a full brake job, even though I babied the brakes as soon as the noise started Saturday, drove straight home, and parked until the shop opened this morning. I told the mechanic to save the parts boxes so I could wrap them and have something under the tree!

Nothing to spend, guess I’ll hand out cards to my special family and friends. Very sad holiday season for us this year.
