The jeans I typically wear usually cost $80 to $100 in the manufacturer’s stores, but I usually get them for far less than that through eBay.
I put 25-50 but to be fair my last 4 pair of jeans were 18 bucks, tops. I put that price because I will pay for Levi’s, provided they’re on sale.
And yeah, Ebay is awesome! Go to the store, try on stuff until you find what you want in the size you want, and then go home and cruise Ebay. It’s awesome.
I had a reversal on that this week, actually. I like black, skinny jeans. Found a pair on Ebay, chose a size I probably fit in but MAYBE not until I lose a couple of pounds. While it was being shipped, I found THE EXACT SAME JEANS at Walmart for 16 bucks. Bought the pair on the spot, and another in a smaller size since they seem kinda big for the size range. I mean, these 10s I’m wearing now aren’t at all tight, and I haven’t any other jeans less than a 14, lol. I should go get more…
I’ve spent anywhere from $15 to $200. At work I just wear cheap Old Navy jeans. When I go out, I wear 7’s and brands like that.
Over the last 5 years it has been easier to spend less on jeans. I used to spend alot more to get slimmer fitting jeans, but style has caught up and everybody makes them.
There’re usually a couple of styles of jeans at LL Bean that fit me perfectly, and there’s an actual LL Bean store near here. I wait for the seasonal clearance sales & get them for around $19 usually - they fill the back of the lower level of the store with racks of them. I think they are more like $49 retail, but I never buy them retail so I’m not sure. I have to buy low-waisted styles to get a good fit, so some years I don’t buy any, depending on the year’s fashions.
I’ve never paid more than $30 for a pair. Why?
–they’re still jeans. No matter how fancy they are, there still are a lot of places that you can’t or shouldn’t wear them.
–I don’t care about fashion. Plus as a short chubby guy there aren’t many pieces of clothing that will make me look good.
–I understand that pricier brands may last longer but the difference between cheap and expensive jeans is way smaller than the price extremes in slacks. Ever found a sub-$20 pair of slacks that didn’t make you look like a hobo?
Thrift store or used E-Bay. They’ve already shrunk.
I don’t see any point in spending over £20 on a pair of jeans, to me, denim is denim. Sure there is better quality out there but my £20 pair look the same and last as long as any other.
I usually wear Levis Signature jeans (the cheapie Levis brand sold at Target/Wal-Mart, costing about $20). I’d like to wear some of the premium brands (at least Lucky Brand), but AFAIK none of those brands is made in my inseam size (29"). Curse my short legs!
I would seriously consider finding a friend with a sewing machine; easy as pie to hem jeans up. You could even do it by hand, with the right needle/thread. Too many good clothes out there to pass by due to an extra inch or two of fabric!
Usually about $30 - $40 max.
However, at the college where I work the students think nothing of paying $100 or far more for jeans. Name brands I have never even heard of, but they seem to think are worth the price.
Then again, there are few articles of clothing that take the wear and tear, and hold up longer, than jeans - so I guess if you were going to splurge on clothing, jeans is not the worst choice you could make. They stay in style, can last years and years, and if they fit well (and you don’t gain/lose a lot of weight), you will eventually get your money’s worth.
Most of the higher end jeans that I’ve bought only come in one length and it’s really long. You pick one that fits your waist and then have them tailored to fit the length.
IME the length varies somewhat with the waist size, and I’ve been fortunate enough that, in my case, the ‘regular’ length has nearly always worked for me. And that’s over going through several different waist sizes over the last five years or so, as I lost weight.
I do remember that the old “designer jeans” of the 1980s, e.g. Jordache, actually came with unfinished hems so it was always necessary to hem them, or have someone do that. They were always very long.
Opp Shop (Thrift Shop for non Aussies) and maybe at a pinch $4 per pair.
My old body used to wear Levi 501’s brilliantly, but in my more ‘mature’ years I find that the Old Lady Jeans work better.
