how much does a mailman make?

What salary can I expect if I decide to carry mail?

There seems to be a range of rates, as per this Google sample. Median seems to be in the $30,000 to $35,000 range.

If you’re a regular Letter Carrier, and you get on the Overtime Desired list, and you are assigned to a Post Office with incompetent supervisors who aren’t very good at scheduling and who are always having to schedule people to carry extra mail on Overtime and Double Time, because they didn’t realize until the last minute that they’d need someone to carry “that mail”, and if you don’t mind carrying mail 60 to 70 hours a week, in snow and slush and freezing rain and dark of night and all the rest of it, you can pull down $60,000 a year.

But–you’ll work 7 or 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and sometimes till 7 or 8 p.m., because if you come back to the office after carrying your regular route and you’re on the Overtime Desired List, and the supervisor says, “Here, go deliver this,” you have to go. And you’ll get called in on your days off, because if you’re on the Overtime Desired list, you have to go in and carry mail whenever they call you for overtime.

And you’ll do this six days a week. The Post Office doesn’t deliver mail on Sundays, but in 20 years the Better Half, who is on the Overtime Desired list, has gotten called in twice on Sundays to come in and case mail. He gets paid Double Time, of course, but it means that we don’t see him.

DDG now I know why you average over 9 posts a day. My wife is a flight attendant and I’m retired. Boy! I must be goofing off.

How much longer before retirement DDG?
