How much does the TV station pay for movies they show?

We’re watching Dune on the movie (1984) channel here in Toronto tonight and brought up my all time big question. How much do these TV stations pay to the distributor of these movies to be able to show them?
Is it $3000, $5000. $50,000?
I know different movies demand more money but what would a movie like this receive.
I have always wondered, and I know on regular TV they sometimes pay a percentage of the total income they receive from advertisers but this channel here in Toronto is just strictly movies all the time no commercials.
Please help me put this question to rest.

I know how it works as regards the normal free-to air terrestrial TV channels here in the UK.

Movie distributors bundle up packages of movies. In each package there will be 1 or 2 ‘hot’ movies, quite a few additional good movies, a few oldies and some crud. At trade events such as MIDEM arranged for just this purpose, the distributors and the broadcasters meet and negotiate deals for different packages, ranging from a few hundred thousand pounds (a small bundle of some oldies) to tens of millions, which might get you first-run rights to a couple of big-draw recent movies and lots of fillers too.

so there’s really no such thing as paying ‘x’ for the rights to any given movie, because any one movie is bundled up with many others.

it doesn’t seem tobe closed. but I think the guy answered it pretty good anyways.

I was referring to this thread, which is closed.

When you posted your original question, it showed up twice in the forum. The moderators closed one of them, and left the other open. Unfortunatley I came upon the closed one, didn’t see the open one, and posted my reply in a whole new thread. My reply is here.

Many thanks for the answers but I still wanted some idea on how much the TV station would pay for these packages.
Does anyone out there know??
$3000, $5000, or $50,000? or more…
