How much money is "bank"?

Over the years, I’ve heard the term “bank” used to refer to a quantity of money, as in “that guy make’s bank”. I’ve been trying to figure out how much money this is. Just how much money does somebody who makes “bank” actually make?

Rough estimates are fine.

It’s somewhere between “rollin’” and “rich, bitch!”

Dude makes as much as a banker.

Depends on who is doing the talking. The guy that cuts the grass at my office may well think of $50 as “bank”. An NFL player may think of several million as “bank”.

In many gambling games, the bank has to be able to cover your maximum bet. So I’m tempted to say “bank” is simply “more than you have.”

It’s like saying the guy makes “serious money”. It’s all relative.

I usually hear that one can “make bank” at something. So that if it doesn’t require real time or work, any profit at all can be called “making bank”.

I say $100.

It’s exactly the same as saying “makes a lot.” A 15 year old working at McDonalds and an investment banker will have different opinions on what that means.

At least twice as much as what your friends from high school/college are making.

Depends on the bank.

If you’re at GS, for instance…

1 million dollars.

/evil cackle

Enough money to buy superfluous apostrophes.

780 billion dollars.

…and I made $779,987,486,200 last year.

Dammit.

This one is obvious. “Bank” just means that you make sweet coin. I was only making 3/4 bank at my last job though.

In my experiences from people who use that terminology, it refers to people who make just enough money to put 22 inch rims on their old junker car.

Well, I would argue if those rims are chrome or, better yet, spinner rims, that is bank by their standards. A much better better standard for that sort of thing is the quality of the stereo, the amp, and the subwoofers in my experience. Alpine stereos are best for this.

My definition has always been that at the end of your paycheck, you have money left to go in the bank.

ie. Living paycheck to paycheck is not ‘making bank’.

Not living paycheck to paycheck is a pretty low standard. I must be filthy stinkin’ rich then. How come nobody told me earlier? I would have spit on more poor people.
