That’s a very old article. The technology that I’ve seen provides a special 8 inch ferrous iron anode to be mounted inside your trunk or engine bay - and IT cops the rust whilst your body remains untouched.
Certainly, the examples which I’ve seen would indicate that it works extremely well.
