How much will I regret dumping AT&T 4G LTE for Sprint's 4G?

From what I’ve looked into Sprint, all 4G is apparently not created equal, and that’s the dilemma I’m trying to resolve before deciding to switch. I’m not so worried about coverage traveling, I don’t travel outside the metro area for it to matter. But it sounds like, from what I’ve read, I might not be happy with the data speeds from Sprint?

Sprint’s offering a pretty sweet new phone yearly lease deal that I’m seriously considering dumping my 20-year-old account with AT&T for. But, I’m not sure it will be worth it if the data isn’t on par. I have no interest in juggling with WiFi and counting gigabytes of use, I don’t have to do that now and I don’t wish to argue about that part of it, my data use is high enough to warrant looking for unlimited if I can get it for the same as I’m paying now.

Anyone have knowledge of Sprint and whether it’s comparable enough to AT&T as far as data speeds in Chicago? My contract is up tomorrow and I just may head to a store before work to get a new phone.

And then I found this comparison: Verizon Narrowly Beats T-Mobile for Fastest Network in Houston - Fastest wireless network in 2020: We tested 8 carriers to crown a winner | Tom's Guide which makes me think Sprint won’t be so bad, at least in the day-to-day around Chicago. If I do travel, I might hate my service other places I may go. Hmm.

Sprint seems to have a fairly liberal 14-day trial. If I can import my old number after I try it and like it for a week or so, seems there’s not much to lose after a re-stock fee.

Just one midday bump in case anyone with an opinion might happen by. A Facebook friend recommended T-mobile, but theirs isn’t as good a deal.

It mostly depends on what sort of coverage your local area gets from Sprint’s cell tower coeverage. For example, ATT coverage was good at my first house, miserable at my second house - so I switched to Verizon. Now I’m back at my old house, I could go back to ATT, who are handling the internet for this house, but I’d rather have the phone on a different network anyway. But who knows why I had trouble with ATT in my second house’s area. It’s all a stupid cellphone tower thing.

The companies are all about equally hateable. My advice would be to find someone with Sprint in your area and see if they’re happy with their coverage.

Just switched as well, from Sprint to AT&T. Sprint is great in large cities, where their towers are everywhere. They don’t seem to cover quite as well in rural areas.

One of the main reasons I switched was that my previous phone, a Galaxy S4, had trouble finding service in the courtroom here, where it apparently switched from a Sprint tower to roaming in an endless loop. That constant switching drained the battery in about 4 hours, which made my phone useless. Moral of the story is, you never know until you have some personal experience.
