There is a nationwide shortage of blinker fluid. It used to be made from distilled dolphin meat but that’s been outlawed. An all natural, organic, GMO free alternative has yet to be developed. :dubious:
Ahh yes, but he intends to sell the hole not the thing that fills the hole. That’ll solve his problem completely.
Cruise control - never bother with it.
I think I use everything else.
mmm
Cruise control’s a good one, I never seem to drive anywhere that’s not stop and go.
Duct tape.
I saw a car t’other day with the entire passenger rear quarter-panel DTed clear up to the trunk lid. Including the rear brake light, which they used a piece of red DT for braking purposes. Gotta admire the ingenuity.
Saw an identical car with the sunroof taped up. Took a few minutes to show the guy where the drain holes are and how to unclog them.
I miss having a sunroof, but I’d rather have my Nissan 370Z.
My car is a stick shift, and has something called SynchroRev Match that I can choose to have on or off. From the owner’s manual: “The SynchroRev Match mode (S-MODE) automatically adjusts the engine speed to match the selecting gear ratio while changing gears.” From Wikipedia: “In combination with the Engine Control Unit (ECU) and various sensors, the engine blips the throttle for the driver during both downshifts and upshifts to allow for better and smoother shifting, and improved handling.” In almost 4 years I’ve never tried it, and I don’t plan to.
I bought a Fiat 500 about six months ago, and although I love it, there are two things I never use: The software to pair my cell phone to the car’s audio system (I use an ancient flip-phone), and the back seat. I’d take out the back seat entirely and put in an aftermarket flat-floor kit–but then I’d have to find somewhere to store the seat.
I always wanted a sunroof in my car, and now that I have one I hardly ever use it! I don’t know why I don’t use it, I think I just forget to open it. Better to forget to open it than forgetting to close it I guess.
Cruise control is another one, I never use that. My daily commute is too much stop and go traffic.
Those panic buttons seem pointless to me. Imagine you are being assaulted in the parking lot and you press the handy-dandy panic button: now your car starts beeping loudly, saying “Hey folks, look over here at the car! Ignore the assault over there in the shadows, look at the car!”
Do you have the child safety locks enabled? My Subaru does this and it can be disabled by pushing a button on inside of door.
On day one after buying a Jeep Wrangler, I remove the back seat. I wrap it up using a tarp and duct tape, then store it in the garage. The dogs then have the back of the Jeep.
When I trade it in for a new Wrangler I reinstall the back seat. It looks really weird, a beat to shit Jeep (three wet, dirty, shedding dogs and a driver who doesn’t give a shit) but a pristine back seat.
I’ve on Wrangler 5.
Another one: my Mazda has a manual mode that I’ve never used. This car is the first automatic I’ve ever owned and it comes with the manual mode that I told myself I’d use all the time, but never do.
I didn’t even want an automatic, but I had to buy one because I wanted the moon roof and it only comes in the automatic. Apparently, I’m the only person in the world who loves a moon/sun roof.
This certainly isn’t a “significant” feature, but our Tercel allows you to select between white, blue and red for the dashboard lights. I’ve flipped through them but see absolutely no reason to switch. No imagination, perhaps?
I love manual mode for driving in snow/ice.
And I love my moon/sun roof. However, TIL after moving up north: in the winter, it is never free of snow/ice unless you’ve literally just cleaned it and gone through an automated car wash. Don’t open it unless all of these apply.
Why, yes, I have had half an inch of snow dump onto my head because I opened the sunroof on a nice, clear, sunny winter’s day…
When I was test-driving my car, the salesdude extolled the benefits of the panic button and what a great safety benefit it was.
I narrowly refrained from telling him that I had a CCW.
Didn’t think of it for snow and ice, I haven’t driven it in the snow yet. You just made my day. It’s been kind of a crappy day, so it’s a low bar.
Actually, several people here have said they liked theirs. But in a thread about car features one doesn’t use, I’d expect most mentions of sun/moon roofs to be negative.
I used my moonroof a lot. Like most times I drove. Then I replaced the car; my new one doesn’t have a moonroof. Instead it has a convertible top. Even better.
Lots of people think of their cars the same way they think of their hot water heater. “It works and I don’t want to think about it any more than that.” Those of us who’re involved with our cars don’t really get that crowd. But they’re out there.
I have an Infiniti Q60S and it has “auto” mode on the climate control. If the outside temp is very hot or very cold, the auto mode is not aggressive enough about bringing the car to the desired temperature. And on warm days, even if the temperature in the car is low enough it keeps the fan speed down so low there is not enough air circulation and you feel like you’re suffocating. I usually set it on manual mode. About the only time auto mode makes me comfortable is when the outside temp is 72. At which point I’m usually turning it off and putting the top down.
I have two Toyotas and one Infiniti with factory GPS and the user interfaces are all far inferior to the $100 Garmin I bought at Costco. The Garmin is very intuitive to use; I’ve never opened the owner’s manual. The factory-installed GPS is fine for guiding you on a route but very counterintuitive for setting waypoints, editing waypoints, finding points of interest, entering addresses, and so forth. Plus the Garmin includes lifetime map updates and live traffic data (trying to compete with Google maps, I suppose).
Anyone remember when you could get an aftermarket moon/sun roof installed? It was a big fad when I was younger (I’m thinking 80’s but may have been later). I don’t think I ever heard of one that didn’t leak.
Cruise control. I’ve never used it on any of my vehicles that have had it. Haven’t even looked at the manual to see how to use it.
I’d use my sunroof more if it had a button to close it automatically.
