I find the diversity here to be amazingly refreshing. We have all ages, races, creeds, religions, sexual preferences, political views. It really helps to make you aware that not everyone sees things from the same frame of reference you do.
I’m going to be 18 on the 7th. I am so not hoping for a big fuss over it that weekend at the renaissance festival where I’ll be working. I am going to be happy about being 18: the guys who back off because of age have no reason now.
Ice Wolf is 37, turning 38 on 10 August. I share my birthdate with disasters, second rate singers and people losing themselves in the Arctic (sigh), while three months after I came squawling into this world, some nut(s) shot JFK.
Chronologically I’m 53 also, and sometimes very conscious of it here when people get to talking about pop culture stuff I have no interest in.
Most of the time though, I don’t even think about how old I am, and usually can’t tell how old everyone else here is, with a few exceptions, of course.
I am kinda curious to know where you old…err…more experienced folks hang out though. Some of you have higher post counts than I, and I’ve never run into you before.
Anyway, glad to meetcha’ and sirjames, welcome to the boards.
Booya! rack up another 15 year old. well…I turn 16 this February 11th…woohoo, and I will get a car. 71 Superbug. I bet all you geezers out there remeber them dontcha?
I am very new to the MB, but have been an avid and devoted fan of Cecil Adams since 1992, and a lurker at this site for about 16 months. I think this is the most informative, fun and ADDICTIVE site on the web, and the posters are truly people I enjoy.
I’m 40. Not particularly happy to be turning 41, but considering the alternative…
I’ve usually made it a point not to disclose my age on message boards. People tend to associate age with with maturity and intelligence (both of which are usually true, but there are certainly notable exceptions). My somewhat young age could make people take my musings less seriously. I’ve seen it happen on other message boards. However, the SDMB seems like the kind of place that it would be much less likely to happen.
I think the agelessness of the internet is one of the most appealing aspects. If you are articulate and thoughtful, you could be any age.
