Okay, so why or how would my nickname (handle) be considered inappropriate?
FDISK.EXE is a DOS file name that helps you install a hard drive. And since I love DOS, then I thought this would be a suitable name for me. I tend to use fdisk.exe a lot!
Gravity, yes this was in email, and i have replyed accordingly. However, I wanted multiple opinions on the matter. I am not even upset or bothered by it. If I have to change, sobe it.
I’m flexable.
So whats a “better” name for me, since I love DOS and Mathematics and the letter X? Prev names on old BBS days: RedMatrix, Vortex, Helix, CubeRoot.

Anybody remember BBSing?

Can I just pop in for my completely unsolicited opinion about how nice it is to see a “newbie” say that it’s no big deal if they are asked to change something? I fully expected to open this thread and hear more about how this board sucks and the mods are keeping me down kind of crap we hear far to often.
Welcome to the SDMB Red Matrix. May your time here be enjoyable and educational.
I just popped in to say that in IMHO, the thread is listed as being started by FDISK.COM, not Red Matrix. Unless it changed in the two seconds between me clicking the link and the thread opening.
Isn’t it amazing? My handle wasFDISK.COM, and i did start the thread. But now it has changed… (about 2 hrs ago) and everywhere FDISK.COM was, RED MATRIX has replaced it instead. -just not in the ‘thread starter’ columns.
I can see why it would be a concern-- allowing it would open a nasty loophole. More.com is a quaint old DOS command, but it’s also a commercial domain.
While we’re on the topic of what’s appropriate, has anyone mentioned your .sig abuse to you yet, Red Matrix? Oversized, particoloured, and appearing-in-the-same-thread-more-than-once .sigs are bad enough, but ones that feature the Wretched Font are unforgivable.
The thread starter field doesn’t get updated by name changes - you can see this put to good use in, i.e., name change threads that make it very clear who the subject is both before and after.

Also, . does not mean “everything”. It means “all filenames containing at least one dot”.
