Without that God-awful, fuck you in the ass, bloated, piece of shit that is known as real player?
Try the Real Alternative v1.44. I’ve tried it, and it seems to be vastly superior to the RealPlayer in almost every measurable sense. Does anyone actually like the RealPlayer?

Bouv, while this isn’t an official Mod warning, I must implore you to keep language like that out of GQ and in the Pit. Consider yourself…informed.

But seriously, tell us how you really feel about Real Player…
You could possibly find a piece of software that could convert the files something else. Don’t ask me what exactly that might be, though.
I heartily second this recommendation. I’ve been using RealAlternative (with Media Player Classic) for ages now, and i’ll never have RealPlayer on my computer again.
I didn’t realise RealPlayer was still funct.
Well, to be honest… the last couple of versions haven’t been that bad, especially if you choose to only install RealPlayer and not RealJukebox or whatever (unless you WANT that of course). Real has apparently actually listened to their users  and have gotten rid of a lot of the “spewing” (you know, icons everywhere, hijacking your file types, even if you chose not to open them with RP) and has either cut down on the bloat or has optimized it so that it’s much faster than, say RealPlayer 8.
Don’t look at me like that… I wouldn’t have believed it either, except that I had to install RP 10 to to see some work webcasts for which RA wouldn’t work.
Another vote for Real Alternative here; I’ve been using it for a while now and it just works; it plays videos when called upon to do so, it doesn’t intrude upon your system or nag you to upgrade to a paid version.
[Somewhat off topic]Pretty much the same story with Quicktime Alternative.
Does Real Alternative now work with streaming stuff? I’ve kept RealPlayer around for things like Amazon music samples, which I could never get RA to play successfully.
Also, Earl is correct - the latest RP versions actually don’t take over your computer like they used to. I used to hate RP with a passion, but now you can pretty much get it running so it never bugs you (even for upgrades), and doesn’t have large, obnoxious flashy panels all over the place when you start it up. Even the UI is fairly compact, relative to WMP. And it seems to only (ha, “only”) take up between about 10 and 15 megs on startup, which by today’s standards isn’t insane. If the last version you used was RP8, you’ll wonder what mood-enhancing drugs the designers must have started taking. Once you’ve turned off Message Center and disabled realsched.exe, at least.
Ew, I just defended RealPlayer. I feel … dirty.
RA seems to play streams OK for me; it might be that it isn’t compatible with all versions that are out there - but for me it works with, say, the stuff on the BBC website.
Another person here who actually likes the recent versions of realPlayer… you have to work a bit to keep it in line maybe, but it’s a pretty good piece of software. I use it for ripping CDs and converting audio files, though I stay away from its proprietary formats as much as I can, and usually use WMP instead for actually listening to music or watching mpeg files.
