How quickly does Altace (Ramipril) work?

I hope this thread doesn’t get closed, as I’m not asking for medical advice, just some facts about Altace (an anti-hypertensive drug). I’m currently on Altace, but my blood pressure was high today at the doctor’s. Later, I remembered that I had forgotten my medication this morning. Would that be the reason? Does it “wear off” that quickly (within 24 hours, as I took it yesterday)? I’m going back to the doctor tomorrow for another check, and will remember my pill in the morning. I’m just curious.

Your request for information is not against any rules. Don’t worry about it.

Best thing to do is call a 24 hour pharmacy and ask the pharmacist on duty your question.

On the other hand, one of our resident MDs will probably be around to answer. But the pharmacist will probably be quicker.

Altace is usually given once a day. If you missed a dose, it might be more than 24 hours since your previous dose – but you’d still have some in your system if you’d been on it awhile.

High blood pressure at the doctor only is not uncommon, even if medicines are taken properly. Try googling “white coat hypertension”.
