How renowned was Peter Lindstrom?

For those who don’t know, Peter Lindstorm was Ingrid Bergmans first husband, who she famously left for Roberto Rossellini. Ms Bergman remains one of my favourite actresses and a few weeks ago, I was reading an article about her which stated to the effect that she was an early example of womens empowerment, and she left her worthless husband for someone more her equal.
Well considering that Peter Lindstorm was a neurosurgeon, it seems a tad unfair to call him useless (certainly humanity was worse off after his death then Mr Rossolleni’s) and then bit of research that I have done on Google, have the few hit which don’t mention Ms Bergman stating that he was “emininent”, “renowned” “leading” and there are quite a few articles in journals which mention him (most of which seem to require a subscription).

So whats the straight dope?

Lindstm.

Looking at this summary of his career Petter Lindstrom, 93, Surgeon and Bergman's Spouse in '50 Scandal - The New York Times I’d say the article you read has a skewed view on the relative importance of actresses, directors and surgeons.

That is true of the world actually. Lindsay Lohan has a wikipedia page much larger then the pioneer of heart bypasses. Its such a world which can consider a film director at a higher pedestal then a nuerosurgeon, who pioneered surgical techniques.

He was renowned as all heck is Rochester, where he took his medical degree. Bergman visited him regularly and that was huge news, according to some old clippings that the local history section of the library likes to display.
