“And don’t forget that Justin Trudeau scrambled up a huge hill of brown makeup!”
“Carney should not be running the country so literally.”
“Carney should be focused on how to please Trump, and not these staged photo-ops.”
Trump would’ve done that race twice as fast as Carney anyway.
Well, he would have finished in half the time, at least.
All the more time for celebratory hamberders!
Moderating:
I know you’re having fun, but the last four or so posts have been about mocking Trump, not about discussing Carney. I was letting it go, figuring it would die, but since we’re right back to it, I’m going to ask you to drop the Trump-humor sidetrack. We have probably hundreds of other threads better suited for it where you can go wild.
This is just a guidance, not a warning. Nothing on your permanent record.
Carney announces some major projects:
The first major project outlined by Carney in his announcement focused on liquefied natural gas (LNG), particularly looking into shipping it overseas to parts of Europe and Asia.
Here are the 1st major projects Carney says are in ‘national interest’
Carney looking into more pharmaceutical deals with provinces.
Not a full funded pharmacare program, but a step in the right direction IMO
Canada, Mexico to sign strategic partnership agreement
Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to sign a strategic partnership agreement with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum during his visit to Mexico, which starts today.
Finding common cause with Mexico makes a lot of sense. LNG should have been prioritized years ago - better now than never.
Carney has brought some maturity to government. Some of his stuff is a mixed bag. Some of it is still building dubious bureaucracies at considerable expense.
What I like best is that he’s just ignoring complaints about him “Not doing anything”, and getting stuff done quietly in the background. It would be nice if we could trumpet this all from the rooftops, but it’s better to fly under Trump’s radar. While the MAGAs are obsessing over Charlie Kirk, we’re just slowly moving away from them.
While Trump was crapping himself and embarrassing his country at the UN general assembly, Carney was
The prime minister used the General Assembly to meet with CEOs and world leaders in an ongoing effort to diversify Canada’s trade and economic opportunities in the wake of Trump’s efforts to realign global trade through devastating duties. Carney met with leaders from Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Well, he made me late today! I got stuck in traffic just east of Parliament Hill when his motorcade was leaving.
Typical Liberal red tape, slowing everything down.
No one has mentioned Carney’s second visit to Washington this week. He and Trump appear to be best buds, which is quite an accomplishment considering how much Trump hated Justin Trudeau. Trump called Carney “a very fine Prime Minister” and “a great guy”. This is not about Trump, but about Carney’s ability to foster congenial relationships. When asked why the tariffs haven’t been resolved yet, Trump basically said that while Carney was a great negotiator, he (Trump) was looking after the interests of the US, and drew laughter when he said “I wanna be a great guy, too”. Say what you will about Trump, but this is the warmest relationship I’ve seen since Obama and Trudeau, and it’s all to Carney’s credit.
Carney deserves some credit for charming Trump and avoiding public provocation. However, he walked away from Washington with no great gains. Carney will be judged by results, and fairly so as he placed enormous emphasis on this during the election. However, it is a difficult balancing act and the capitulation of Europe, Silicon Valley and Harvard has not been particularly helpful.
Carney seems to be quite good at “quiet diplomacy.” He doesn’t make a big deal about things; he just goes ahead and does things that are in the best interests of Canada, and we hear about them later.
I think Trump respects Carney a lot, and perhaps even is a little bit afraid of him. Carney’s got the experience as Governor of two national banks, and knows economics cold. Trump’s degree from Wharton doesn’t really measure up to Carney’s qualifications, and he knows it. Carney has also taken the initiative to quietly discuss economic, and undoubtedly other, matters with other world leaders and without Trump’s involvement or interference. I’m sure that Trump is thinking that he cannot deal with Carney the way he did with Trudeau; that is, bullying and belittling.
As an aside, I did see some of the meeting between Carney and Trump on the TV news. Migosh, the Oval Office is ugly, with all that gold crap everywhere. I hope that one of the first things that the next occupant of the Oval Office does is to say, “Get all this junk out of here.”
?
The capitulation was announcing a deal where the EU accepted the tariffs placed on them and then offered the US $600B for the privilege.
