How’s Carney doing, Canada?

I think we’re now running with the theory that the Conservative MP crossed the floor to the Liberals as part of a long running secret plan to distract from the budget. Probably orchestrated by the deep state. Or something.

Well, out west we’re just so accustomed to Smith and Moe kowtowing to every whim of Trudeau that he probably just naturally assumed that Ford would behave the same with Carney.

Yes, those two are such strong defenders of “Team Canada”

Out of curiosity, if failing to convince a leader of an opposing party to acquiesce to your wishes is an indictment of one’s leadership, what do we conclude in an alternate scenario where one fails to prevent two of one’s own MPs from jumping ship?

Because to be on a Team means that the team works for all its members. So, I don’t expect them to be on Team Canada because Team Canada doesn’t really consider them a part of Canada. Unlike most of Canada, we don’t consider our major trading partner and key ally, the US, as the enemy. We know who the actual enemy is.

Also, the two you point out haven’t torpedoed negotiations, assuming they were in fact happening or were seriously pursued, unlike the full members of Team Canada. At least Smith has been working with the administration to get our product delivered with decreased tariffs. But that would involve actually talking with them, the US, rather thinking you’re better than them and insulting them. Funny way to act with your major customer, insulting them.

Maybe he isn’t a good leader. See, I can admit that someone isn’t perfect. He’s not my buddy and he, at least at this point, isn’t the PM. The PM, you know, the guy you lot trusted to run the country saying he was the more competent person with all the skills required to do the job. When will that be demonstrated with a deal? What happens when CUSMA starts being negotiated, a deal that is far larger in scope than the one they are working on now, if he can’t get any progress now?

Maybe nothing, until the Orange Orangutan is out of office or in the unlikely event that the US Supreme Court overturns his illegal and whimsical commandeering of tariff laws. The current CUSMA was signed by Trump but back then he was far less senile and far less hostile.

The inability to negotiate with a madman is not the fault of Canadian leadership. Carney is working hard to establish stronger trade relationships with other nations and for the moment, that may be all that we can do. Stop blaming Carney for the disaster that US voters created.

Carney has a a far better CV to accomplish that than Polly. Time for Polly to get a real job. :parrot:

When Trump (the other partner here) actually comes to the table in good faith to strike a deal that is advantageous to both parties. That would be… never. It takes two to make a deal, and when one is a petulant childish moron, that is rather difficult.

Your faith in your good friends to the south, and your painting as your fellow Canadians as “the enemy” has been noted.

And yet Smith has managed to keep Oil and Gas at 10% even with having to deal with a childish moron. …Probably because she doesn’t call him a childish moron. In any case, maybe she should be PM?

Or collect a real pension. Rumored to be over $200k a year I understand.

Maybe because the Orange Moron was informed that the US desperately needs Canadian oil and gas?

Since almost nothing is impossible, I’ll just say that the probability of someone like your hero Danielle Smith being elected to PM is around 0.000001%, and if it should ever happen, I’m moving to New Zealand. Canada would no longer be the country I grew up in and that I love.

Wow, Premier Smith did this all by herself! Amazing! Also, false. There are plenty of reasons why the US does not want Canadian oil costing a lot more - for example, gasoline price hikes are not popular to Americans.

We certainly do.

So, you’re saying that the US doesn’t need anything else from Canada? Or that the people representing those areas aren’t a persuasive as Smith is in putting forth their case?

Frankly just in the last few posts it is clear that this is about who people support and ideologies rather than what is good for Canadians. It is apparent that political bias is more important than making a deal with people wanting to move to other countries rather than have their version of Canada polluted by what other ‘fellow Canadians’ want Canada’s vision to be.

Using my argument from many another thread. Nice to see. Many of your fellow Canadians vote for different parties. They aren’t evil or the ‘enemy’ either. It would make sense to listen rather than dismiss.

No, using your words from this very thread:

So who exactly is “the actual enemy” that you describe here?

The people who want to prevent us from developing our resources and essentially dragging us down into mediocracy and irrelevance.

Ahh, so imaginary people then.

Yes, the imaginary people that say there is no business case for LNG to Europe or other places. The imaginary people who fund pipelines in Qatar but say Canada is different somehow. The same people who say that talking about pipelines is boring. Yeah, those imaginary people.
