I’ve realized since we moved into this condo in March that my vacuum doesn’t really clean my stairs very well. We have two dogs, and their fur gets all over the carpet on the stairs. My current vacuum does not have a good attachment for this; none of the attachments have any sort of brush on them, and the base of the vacuum is too big to do any good on the individual steps.
So, what can I buy that will suck up this dog fur without a ton of problems? My other vacuum works fine everywhere else, so I don’t need to replace it. I’d love to get a Dyson Animal, but can’t justify spending $300-550 on a vacuum right now.
Thanks for your help in advance!
Before I got my Dyson, I used a handheld vacuum with a motorized brush, something like this. It worked pretty well, and was relatively cheap.
We have a small Dirt Devil hand vacuum that works well for stairs and upholstery. (Ours is an older model than the one in the link.) They do have a beater bar, so they’re good for cleaning pet hair from carpeting. We have 5 dogs and used to have 2 cats, so we had a lot of pet hair to clean up.
The beater bar does tend to get bogged down with hair sometimes, but it’s easy to get in there and clean it out, at least on the one we have.
ETA: Ah, I see Kathmandu beat me to it. Drat.
We use one of these:

Just brush it over the stairs before you vacuum them, and it’ll loosen the hair so it can be picked up.
If you don’t want to buy a new appliance, try using a regular old hair brush. The brush fluffs the carpet fibers and loosens the dog and cat hair so the vacuum attachment can pick it up.
Or what katie 1341 said. I swear that wasn’t there when I posted!
