I genuinely do not get why so many places seem to be rushing to go all the way with removing restrictions.

In many places where masks are required, the requirement hasn’t been consistently enforced, and I see lots of people maskless (or wearing their masks on their chins, etc.).

In another context, a comment was made (by @iamthewalrus_3):

Underenforced laws are really toxic to civil society and policing.

If there’s a rule, or a law, it should be enforced. Seeing a bunch of people ignoring rules and laws makes people think the rules are meaningless. Worse, rarely enforcing it gives police the discretion to use it as a tool to punish arbitrarily.

I find it at least plausible that no mask mandate is better than an unenforced mask mandate.
