How stupid do these anti-choicers think we are?

I’m referring to people like Rick Perry who advocate extreme regulations on birth control centers, or the opponents of the recent bill in California that would allow staff previous not allowed (but almost certainly qualified) to perform an abortion. People who are openly and strongly anti-abortion, often in any situation, but who then turn around and claim that their legislation demanding that abortion clinics have certain very specific dimensions or that they have actual surgeons on hand (because clearly, all abortions are advanced surgical procedures). Look, I’m sorry, but there’s a limit to how dumb you can insinuate that your political opposition is. This is that limit. Fuck you guys. And fuck this guy:
Are you really that desperate to make sure that we retain the ability to kill babies, ever AFTER FIVE MONTHS of GESTATION?

Or to PREVENT holding abortion clinincs to the SAME STANDARDS as other surgical centers?

Or to require A MEDICAL DOCTOR, with SURICAL CREDENTIALS to perform them?

All while claiming to “support Womens’ Health”?

Seriously? All this huubub about what Perry said, JUST TO TRY TO DEFEND THAT?
Yeah… I don’t appreciate being treated like a moron.

Um, I would certainly want the person performing my abortion to hold surgical credentials, and I would also want it to happen in a clinic held to the same standards of care as other surgical units. Why would you want otherwise? Is there something I’m missing here??

Pro choice.

That without this law, abortions have continued to be very, very safe, and the people spearheading them are anti-abortion on principle. The fact is that most abortion clinics can’t hold up to the regulations demanded, because the regulations demanded are incredibly stringent. What’s more, there’s all but zero evidence that there’s any actual need for such legislature. All it is is a cheap ploy at getting around Roe v. Wade. It’s not just the surgical requirements, look up some of the other shit included in the texas bill - it’s nuts.

The regulations include specifications for janitor closets and hallway widths- things that might be relevant for hospitals but not for abortion clinics. They’re blatant attempts to shut down abortion clinics.

Rick Perry stating that all life is sacred the night before he executed the 500th person in the recent spate of Texas executions is one of the most delicious ironies of all time.

ASCs are specifically for surgical procedures – general anesthesia, incisions, sutures, the like. I’ve been to an ASC (I think?) for kidney stone surgery.

Most abortions aren’t like that, though. Anything after 16 weeks (after that big fetal growth spurt) is ALREADY required to take place in an ASC. That’s a tiny percentage of abortions, though, and this bill would have required even the administration of RU486 to take place in one of these. It would have made it a three-day process: one for the sonogram, then sleep it off; one for the first dose of RU486, which must be taken in a doctor’s presence; one for the second dose, which must also be taken in a doctor’s presence. The “doctor’s presence” thing is part of the bill; most people can probably take a pill on their own.

So this is requiring three doctor’s appointments consecutively for one procedure that could be taken care of equally safely by FAXing a scrip to Walgreens.

Not to mention the distance involved if you don’t live one of the 6 ASC/abortion clinics in Texas. Not to mention the cost required in upgrading the existing clinics – they’d have to come up with another $40,000/month in revenue somewhere. Not to mention the fact that – well, Texas knows how to stimulate business growth, right? Tax credits, low-interest loans, etc? The amendment to the bill that would have allowed those things – or even an extra year for ASCs to come up to that standard – wasn’t even debated by the opposition, who were too busy snaffling illicit Pringles and playing Candy Crush.

Democrats complaining about Republicans instituting burdensome and unneeded regulations. Did you guys switch scripts on accident?

Well, when the regulations will primarily negatively affect poor rural women of color instead of, say, fertilizer plant owners, the heart starts to bleed.

Imagine for a moment how stupid they think God is. We’ve pretty recently found out that many pregnancies simply don’t work out, women miscarry far more than we previously imagnined, and usually very early. We didn’t know, but presumably God did, having written the specs.

So, anyway, God has an immortal soul ready to ship, free installation. Could be any time, couldn’t it? Make sense to install very close to the operational date, or even after! Whats the hurry, ain’t like free will amounts to much given the circumstances. Why not wait even until after birth for divine possession?

But no. Stupid God, the God of Stupid People, does what a Boy Scout going for his bio-engineering merit badge would never do: install it a the very first instant of conception, wihout even knowing if the wetware is properly hooked up! What does the divine, infinitely precious immortal soul think when it discovers that its mobile home is missing, say, a spinal column?

Is there a recycling center? Retreads, sent in for another go? Is that why some people are born grumpy?

Damned if I’ll worship a stupid God. And if I’m damned 'cause I won’t, fuck Him anyway.

And in that way it might well work. Never mind the courts, the only way to fight back here is politically, that is, electorally. Voters in all affected states, keep November 2014 in mind.

Those are the angels that dance on the heads of pins.

Now if only most of the republican complaints made any sense…

And this is the party of small government and liberty. Astounding.

No he doesn’t think you are that stupid, he think his constituents are that stupid. They’re the ones buying it, they’re the ones voting him into office, they’re the ones picketing Planned Parenthoods that they think do nothing but non-stop abortions. He’s right too.

It’s been discussed here many times how little power the governor of Texas has over executions in his state.

Much as I despise Rick Perry, and much as I oppose all stupid obfuscatory regulations of this sort, I’m not really sure it has anything to do with thinking anyone is stupid. If Rick Perry honestly believes abortion is wrong (which certainly many reasonable people do) then it is at least arguably ethical for him to do whatever he legally can to reduce the number of abortions that happen. Alternatively, to be more cynical, if he believes his political base is paying attention and is smart enough to understand what’s really going on, then it arguably makes sense as a purely political maneuver to curry favor with the pro-life crowd.

The office still comes with a soapbox.

Perry can’t imagine that anyone is any smarter than he is. I mean, he has good hair, right? Means he has a good head.

If Rick Perry really believed that abortion was a sin, and wanted to reduce abortions, then he wouldn’t take away access to birth control. Odd, too, that he’s against prenatal care for pregnant women.

Perry’s just dancing that side step as fast as he can, and hoping that nobody notices that he’s not consistent.

That’s because for jackasses like Perry, life begins at conception and ends at birth.
