This is a murky area worthy of investigation. My understanding is that the Pentagon has been reluctant to release good estimates regarding the wounded because of political pressures.
Official figures list the number of wounded in action at 1268 since the start of the war and 720 between May 1 and September 25, 2003. Oddly enough, their official tables have a blank next to the row for “Nonhostile Casuality” in the “Wounded in Action” table. If anybody knows of any data sources that might indicate “nonhostile casualties”, let us know.
