How the Jacksonport Polar Bears celebrated the New Year

Happy New Year!

The Jacksonport (Wisconsin) Polar Bears have once again survived a plunge in the icy waters of Lake Michigan! Not as icy, snowy or cold as previous years, which made the event a little easier on everyone – no ice floes to avoid and plenty of space on the beach to prepare.

This was the 21st Annual event in Jacksonport which was started by J.R. Jarosh when he was but a wee teenager with no sense. Now he dresses up in a tuxedo for the swim. He still has no sense, but he is no longer alone like he was the first 3 years.

We have a new page for 2007’s event and a 5-minute video is posted on YouTube (link on the site). Be sure to see the other 20 years’ events – each is different and each has one or more web pages devoted to that year. There’s even a section where the club was treated by Fox to a bus ride, dinner and a movie to celebrate the opening of the first Ice Age flick in Minneapolis (link on the home page).

If you are in the Midwest, plan on joining us next year! You’re never too crazy to be a Polar Bear, and you’ll never forget the experience!
