Could you have an entire conversation that flowed smoothly in one of these languages? Could you speak nothing but one of these languages and always get your point across smoothly to other people that knew the languages? Would you find yourself making up alot of words? How comprehensive was his word list in these languages, or did he just make rules and leave most of the words to the imagination?
Basically what I’m asking is: How do these compare to “real” languages in terms of practicality? I’ve heard some people can speak Klingon. How do these compare to Klingon?
My connection died the last time I tried to post this, so I hope it doesn’t appear twice.
You couldn’t have a very long conversation in Quenya or Sindarin, because there are way too many gaps in the vocabulary. However, you can write pretty well in both languages as long as you’re careful to step around the gaps. They are at least as complete as Klingon, and possibly more so. See http://www.ardalambion.com/ for more than you ever wanted to know about all of Tolkien’s languages.
