how to clean a cue stick

I recently (6-8 months) purchased a wood cue stick to replace my graphite one. I love my new wood cue, and will never go back to graphite. I have noticed one thing, I can’t seem to keep it clean. With the old graphite cue I was able to get it 99% clean with a microfiber cloth. The same cloth dosen’t seem to work as well on my wood cue.

So, any dopers have the straight dope on cleaning wood cues?

Sorry… with the title I just had to check out the thread!

I use a piece of scotch brite (the green kind) on the shaft of my McDermott. It works very well.

and now we’ll wait patiently for puns about shafts and McDermotts

If you’re talking about the sweaty gunk that builds up around the part of the cue where you make your bridge, I use a new, crisp dollar bill. It’s abrasive enough to remove the finger-pit sludge, but not so much as to actually shave down the cue.

I am looking for the least abrasive method I can find – I purchased a custom cue and I want to keep it as long as I can. Finger oils is what I believe I am trying to clean off. Thanks for the ideas!

slight hijack – anywhere in Las Vegas I can shoot pool w/o worring about getting shanked on my way in or out?
