In Windows NT and derivatives, including WinXP and Win2000 (using both), there are files called “EA DATA. SF” that the system writes on some disk drives, apparently always in the root directory. They are “extended atribute” files, and I think they contain data about all the other files on that disk.
They are often in the way. I can’t select all and copy when that’s one of the files. I can’t delete it. And it is extremely frustrating not to know how to write a floppy disk with just WHATEVER.TXT on it to give somebody. Sometimes when I try this I also get the EA DATA. SF file on the disk, and the person will ask me what is it for, and I have to say I don’t know and I don’t know how not to write it.
Are these files doing me any good? How can I not have them in the way?
