I had a small red bump just behind my knee for quite a long time. Today, it randomly started hurting and i looked down to see it had grown significantly in size. it kept growing, too, but its calmed down now. It hurts really badly though, and bending my leg is killer because of its location. I want to draw up whatever is in it, and I suppose, lance it before school tomorrow.
There is some vile stuff available at your drugstore for this purpose. Some are also pretty ordinary like magnesium sulfate. They’re not always fast acting though.

To help ripen a forming abscess or boil, I generally recommend warm compresses or warm soaks. Then come back when it’s ready to be lanced.
I don’t advocate home surgery for most folks.
Signs of systemic infection, such as fever, chills, myalgias and so forth, should indicate sooner consultation with said physician.

Heat works well. I recommend heating water to as hot as you can bear it, then putting it in a water bottle and resting your leg on that.

My doctor suggested making a hot compress from a clean, wet washcloth that has been microwaved for about 1 minute. Just hot enough that you don’t get burned. If it’s too hot to touch, wait for it to cool down some. Put it on the area until it’s no longer hot.
For my more awkwardly-placed boils and such, I soak in a bath tub that is full of water right from the hot water tank - no cold. YMMV based on how hot you keep your hot water tank. Again, don’t burn yourself - just make it as hot as you can stand it.
Neither of these things cause boils/ingrown hairs/sebaceous cysts to go away overnight but in my experience it makes the inflammation go down and if you do it a few times, they go away faster.
If it does get infected, go to your doctor to get it taken care of.
