I’m looking for a lawyer for something in Northern Kentucky. It’s for a relatively uncommon issue, but most general lawyers should be able to handle it. However, I have no idea how to find a reliable lawyer. I feel like picking one out of the phone book is dumb, and I work in Ohio so none of my co-workers (all of whom live on the Ohio side) are likely to be able to recommend someone.
What’s the best way to go about this?
You could try calling the Kentucky Bar Association and asking for a referral – I believe most every state’s bar provides that service.

An old friend of mine in that area is married to a lawyer (who I think may have since become a judge). Let me know by PM if you need a more directed referral.
You could also use Martindale-Hubbell , which good lawyers themselves take seriously. An “AV” rating is the best one. They have a search feature by city and type of practice.
