My brother recently posted on Facebook that it’s −40°C (not counting wind chill) where he lives, and that this is the coldest temperature he has ever experienced. I suspect he is wrong, but how can I prove it? Is there a weather website where, given a place and a range of dates, it will search through the weather data and tell me the record low temperature? I know there are lots of sites that will let you browse historical weather data, but I don’t want to have to page through dozens or hundreds of monthly/weekly weather reports, all the while trying to keep track of the lowest temperature I’ve seen.
Weather Underground at least allows you to search for locale and date, but I haven’t found something with a date range so far: Weather History & Data Archive | Weather Underground
Climate Data Online’s search tool allows to select a date range: Search | Climate Data Online (CDO) | National Climatic Data Center (NCDC)
Thanks! I was able to use this one to download a CSV file of the minimum temperature data, and can confirm that −40°C is not the coldest temperature he’s experienced! On 18 days between his birth and the year 2000, the low temperature was between −41°C and −43°C.
