How to ignore someone long-term

I wonder who posted in between Roderick_Femm and Acierocolotl? Oh well, guess I’ll never know.

Just kidding, needscoffee. :stuck_out_tongue:

Might I ask what was so “repulsive” about the avatar? Because, as someone else mentioned in this thread, you could probably just message them directly to tell them it offends you and you want it changed. They’d probably accept your request and change it.

That may be a major assumption.

You’ll notice that I still have my mosquito-humming-bird-bagpipes up.

In the case of the one that bugs me, there’s nothing objectively wrong with it, and it’s clear that it has some meaning to them. It’s definitely my problem, not theirs (and not really much of a problem, anyway). I’d never ask them to change it.

Now, Northern_Mosquito, on the other hand…

Lol!!

Okay – I was wondering. In general, if you think an avatar is offensive, please report it. The mods, or the admins, or someone, can do something about that. But if it’s just something that bugs you for reasons you think wouldn’t be widespread, then sure, hide it however you best can.

OK, can we at least narrow it down?

Is it a body part?
Did it have some adverse political meaning?
Is it somebody’s stupid face?
Is it religious in nature?
Did the color scheme induce epilepsy?

You too? I wonder just how many of us there are.

(I’m not the original poster) those above fit the few avatars that are disquieting for me but I wouldn’t presume to ask their owners to change them.

In retrospect, I can see how my issue would stir curiosity, but that definitely wasn’t my intention. I can see only harm coming from publicly revealing which avatar it is. Also, the fact is that if it were a universal reaction, nobody would need to ask only cements the theory that it’s my issue, not the poster’s.

Thanks much for all the advice. For now, she’s on Ignore, but as soon as I get an ad blocker installed, I’ll un-Ignore her and just block the image.

Ditto. And not only do I see the blocked person’s avatar when he/she/it posts, I see it again when somebody quotes the post.

This entire thread is blank to me.

mmm

Just so we are all using the same terminology, when I’m on a forum page like the Great Debates main page, I can see the ignored avatar off to the right if they start a thread, are the last poster or post a lot to that thread.

When I am in an actual thread like “declaw your cat or not” I never see the avatar at all. I see grey lettering that says “ignored content”. To see the avatar I have to click on the “ignored content”. If the ignored avatar is in a quoted reply from someone, I have to click the down arrow to see it.

In short, Forum pages, small icon on right. Threads, not at all unless I agree to it. I use Discourse Classic.

This is usually the kind of thread @Mean_Mr.Mustard weighs in on. Haven’t seen him in a long time.

Discobot is stalking me. Solution(s)?

MacSquito_from_Hummingburgh

Discobot is like the Terminator. The only way to defeat it is to change the timeline.

Changing the timeline may also be a good way to change other people’s avatars. If you still don’t like them, keep moving to alternate universes until you find one with a good set of avatars.

It’s a great avatar, one of the best on the board!

I’ve never seen a green mosquito, but I must admit that I googled to see if there was a bird called a Northern Piper. (There isn’t, only a Sandpiper, and a Pixar short called Piper.)

Can everybody still see me…?

I can, but I can’t tell what your avatar is.
