How to make sprites?

Not the cola: the bitmapped characters. I’ve seen hand-made sprites, and they look nice, but I don’t have a lot of talent or practice at drawing. How can I make good sprites?

Most people just use a paint program like the Windows Paint program, or Paint Shop pro, or Photoshop, etc. You can also take digital photos or scan drawings or photos. You have a lot of options.
If you’re asking how to improve at drawing pictures or making graphic images, well, that’s another topic all togeather.

Well, any help you can give is appreciated.

Other than tell you Google “learn to draw” sites, I’m affraid I don’t have any help or advice to offer.
Perhaps a more knowledgable Doper will come along to help.

Back in the '80s, I did a lot of programming for the Commodore 64. I designed sprites aplenty, using public domain sprite editors. But you can do it without a special program. Any drawing program that allows you to set up a grid can be used for designing sprites. For that matter, you can do it on graph paper without using a computer at all.
