My window frame had a bit of rot. There’s a hole in the bottom left hand corner. The hole is about the same shape and size as my thumb. The bottom of the window pane is exposed. I’ve removed the loose bits, and put wood hardener down the hole. The surrounding wood is now solid.
How do I fill the hole? The problem is that the hole keeps on filling up with water.
I’ve tried putting wood filler in, but it doesn’t solidify. It just turns into a gooey mess.
What can I do about this?
I’m not certain what type of wood filler you have tried but usually, an epoxy or polyester based rot repair product similar to Bondo Home Solutions Wood Filler will do the trick. Amazon offers several different products under the search term “rot repair”.
Depending on the size and orientation of the hole I would either drill it out round and plug it with a round dowel or chisel it out square and plug it with a small square piece of wood. Glue in the plug and fill any small gaps with wood putty, then sand and paint it to match the rest of the window.
