I laughed too hard at this.
I’m in this situation right now. My girlfriend moved in with her 5 year declawed girl cat in December. I have two 1 year old boy cats with claws. We’ve been patient so far, just showing them to each other a little bit. We finally said screw it this weekend, and now whenever we’re home, we take her out of the bedroom and stick her with the rest of the cats. Surprisingly, it’s going pretty well. They fight, but less frequently every day. Now it’s just down to occasional hissing and they pretty much ignore each other. The boys don’t seem to understand that she doesn’t have claws, so I think they’re more scared of her than she is of them.
Soft Paws to maybe help with the claws/no claws issue.
Now I’m remembering a scene from a Rudy Rucker novel where people take a drug called ‘merge’ that loosens their body shape, and they join into one amœba of flesh… and then demerge later when it wears off.
For you next foundation challenge on Face Off…
My boyfriend and I just tried to merge our cats. It was a temporary situation while I was cat-sitting his dad’s cat. At first things went smoothly. His cat just fled to the top floor (his bedroom) and mine to the bottom - the family room. They each had their own litter-box, but we were hoping that they would become friends, or at least tolerate each other. We had their food in a central area of the house - the kitchen. Soon my cat became super bitchy with his cat. He got sick of it and I took my cat back to my house where she bullied his dad’s cat for 2 months.
I guess my advice would be separate food bowls, and to not have expectations of a great big happy kitty family because it propably won’t happen. The transition is tough and cats are rarely thrilled about major change.
By the time I move in with him, my cat will most likely be gone or my son will take her. I don’t plan on trying this again.
