How to move 15 gigs of data from a Macintosh OS 10.26 to Windows XP

I need help… I need to transfer these files, an attempted dvd burn didn’t work because the pc wouldn’t recognize the mac formatted dvd for some reason.

help?

Would a direct ftp connect be my best bet? or is there another solution?

If you have firewire on the WindowsXP machine. Copy the entire contents to a DOS formated firewire drive. A FW drive is about $100, it is good to have for backups and transfering. I highly suggest them. This is the easiest and fastest way.

Or share the folder with the contents and transfer over a network cable ( if they are networked). Even on a fast network, this might take a while. But is definitely not hard.

SAMBA, network, filesharing, copy.

'Nuff said.

Did you burn the DVD in UDF format? It sounds like you burned it in HFS+.

Well, on the off chance that Mort Furd didn’t actually say 'Nuff, here’s more detailed directions:

Unplug both computers from the network. Plug one end of a network cable into the PC, and the other into the mac. Turn on file sharing on the PC (this is perfectly safe, because the machines are now physically removed from the internet). Select connect to server'' from the Go’’ menu on the mac. Hope that everything works as it should and the PC shows up. If it does, then you’ll get the PC’s drive to mount as a volume on the mac, and can copy files back and forth to your heart’s content. If either of the 'puters has only a lowly 10baseT connection, 15GB might take a while, so go for coffee…

Just to add to viking’s post above, you’ll most likely need a crossover ethernet cable for that to work on a direct connect like he/she is describing. Your local Best Buy or computer store will probably sell these.
