How to prepare an inkjet printer for shipment?

How do I prepare an inkjet printer (Canon Pixus Pro9500 aka Pixma Pro9500 outside Japan) for storage for a month or two, then shipping after that? I have the original box and packing, so that’s covered. I’m not sure what to do about the ink tanks and printhead. Unlike HP and Lexmark printers, the ink tanks are separate from the printhead.

I have 2 fears: the ink tanks drying out and the printhead getting damaged. These ink tanks have a big hole at the bottom for the ink to flow into the printhead. I suppose I could stick some tape across the hole, but would that stand up to the pressures in air shipment? Usually I would just go out and buy a new ink tanks but there are 10 in this thing. If I need to get another set, so be it, but I’d prefer not to. Then again, I don’t know if the printhead needs to be specially cleaned before storage to prevent gunking up.

I’d ask the retailer but it’s a big box store who’s employees speak a language I don’t (baka gaijin, that’s who I am). I included the Japanese language page in case someone who reads Japanese can find anything on it. Google translation doesn’t work well on this page because a lot of the text is actually graphics. Google hasn’t been much help, either, but my Googlefu may be weak this weekend.

Concerning the air pressure; unless the printer is airtight, the pressure exerted on the tape due to air will be minimal, because the same amount of air (or lack thereof) will be on both sides.

In other news, I used to have a CD player that had a “key” that you put in the bottom for shipping. I’m not as familiar with printers, but there may be a similar “shipping key” for printers to keep the head from bouncing around.

So far as the printhead moving around, most new printers are shipped with the print head taped in place. Tape it down.

Thanks for your help, guys. The printer’s in the mail and maybe, just maybe, I’ll see it in a few weeks.
