How to stop animal from nesting in my van

Now that my little fridge problem has been taken care of, here is the next issue confronting me. My office owns a mini van, which we use at rather infrequent intervals. The last time we tried to start it, it wouldn’t catch. A preliminary investigation revealed that something small, likely furry, and probably very cute had nested in the engine compartment. It (or they) had chewed through a wiring harness, some of the spark plug wires, and a vacuum line. It is not realistic for me to be able to store the van indoors, so what the hell can I do to prevent this from happening again? Can I piss on the engine block to mark it as mine? Should I make up a cachet of dog fur from the neighbors german shepard and hide it behind the bumper? Can I use the SawzAll in any way? Any and all help is appreciated.

Well, first of all, remove the nest.

Possibly spraying with bitter apple will prevent this in the future.

I’ve always wanted to try stuff like this.

“100% Real MOUNTAIN LION URINE. In the wild, Lion urine is a powerful communicator. It attracts a lion to its mate. It helps prey like armadillo, and wild boar tell whether an area is safe or dangerous. It marks a lion’s territory and signals his dominance. Hunters, trappers, and others who interact with wild animals have long understood how the selective uses of animal urines can trigger instinctive reactions. Now you can too. This product is 100% real lion urine and makes prey like armadillo, elk, wild boar, and coyotes think vicious mountain lions are nearby.”

You can also getfox, bobcat, coyote and wolf flavors.

Mmmn! Wouldn’t your office mates be impressed! Nothing like engine-heated piss concentrate coming through your vents to bring people together.

In my region martens chewing up motor cabling are a frequent problem, and the most popular measures are

  • spraying with special anti-marten spray or leaving a smell dispenser in the car
  • laying fine wire mesh under the car/at least under the engine compartment (because they don’t like stepping on that).
