How to test the failure between Sata card vs. Enclosure

I installed a SATA card in my Mac Pro a few years ago that provides two SATA ports. I also have an enclosure with two sata ports that holds two drives.

Everything worked, but I didn’t use it for a long time.

When I tried to hook it all up recently, it didn’t work, in that the drives never mounted. So now I’m stumped about how to figure out which is my problem, the enclosure or the card? I know it’s not the drives or cables, because I can hook those up other ways and they work.

Any ideas?

Find someone with native eSATA ports and plug yours in? Maybe a (nice) computer shop will let you take the 15 seconds of their time to test. Neither of those parts are known for failure, so it would be hard to pin down. The part that is known for failure are the hard drives, although it’s good that you figured out those were ok. Are the drives themselves internal SATA or IDE/PATA?

Internal sata drives.
