How to type Japanese Katakana in Windows on Chrome

Need to do this for a Japanese passport renewal application. I have downloaded the Japanese language pack for Windows, but after that I’m stumped. I have a western roman-letter qwerty keyboard.

Never tried it, but I understand this is the method.

It seems like some applications aren’t set up to accept Katakana using Windows, and that includes the online form (ironic, I think). I was able to type the items elsewhere and copy/paste them into the form. Thanks for your help.

I’ve done this too; congrats for figuring it out. There’s always something useful out there on the internet.

I wonder what @TokyoBayer 's advice would be on this topic. (I’ve not had to type anything in Japanese in a long time, 10+ years, so things likely have changed since then.)

I was even able to type in a few simple kanji (the application is for my husband, and his family name is made of simple kanji, but his given name did not come up using the Windows method). Fortunately I don’t have to do this very often.

I do pretty much what was linked above.

It works out ok!

That’s interesting. I haven’t run into that problem before but it looks like you have it taken care of.
