I’m reading the Game of Thrones books and want to see the show, but I don’t have cable, and I don’t want to steal anything. Same deal with Sherlock and other BBC stuff. I am perfectly willing to be advertised at. I see a bunch of sites that say they’ll let me watch stuff for free but want me to sign up for an account or download software, and it all feels kinda sketchy.
Is there a place I can go to do this that’s safe and legal?
They are almost certainly scams, designed to get you to install malware.
One option for watching Game of Thrones or other HBO shows is suggested in this article. It’s about how some people who don’t subscribe to HBO (or don’t have cable or even a TV set) watch HBO shows via the network’s HBO Go service, available only to HBO subscribers. The trick is getting an HBO subscriber to give you access to their account.
Is it legal? The article suggests that it might not be, although HBO might not mind too much. “Up to a point, account sharing is permissible; HBO Go allows subscribers to have three separate accounts so that family members can watch different shows at the same time. Some fans might be testing that limit by sharing passwords with friends, but HBO, at least publicly, isn’t cracking down on the practice, partly because it doesn’t know how widespread it is. A spokesman for the network declined to comment on the matter. In private, HBO executives did not dispute the notion that the password borrowing could lead young people to subscribe to HBO in the future.”
While it won’t help with HBO most shows that aren’t available on Hulu or network websites are available for purchase on Amazon or Itunes, Itunes is a pain to use since the videos only like to play on expensive Apple products or your PC, but Amazon streams to a number of different devices.
Amazon does have these- but I can’t pay right now.

PBS puts Masterpiece on pbs.org - so Sherlock was available online the day after it aired. It’s completely legally available until 6/19.
ooOOOOooooo!!! I figured the second season would be on Netflix eventually so I was willing to wait, but NOW is much better! Thanks!
For many cable and satellite companies, there’s a free HBO preview this upcoming weekend (June 8-11?). You might want to check that out - it usually includes on-demand so you can catch up on previous episodes.
I watched the entire season of Dexter when we had a free Showtime preview last fall - it was a long weekend!
