I’ve seen a few odd episodes of Game of Thrones. I want to jump in with two feet and start with season 1 episode 1. I have netflix. What the best way to get caught up? I’m not a fan of Amazon, their proprietary player gliches on me. Hulu?
I’m fairly sure HBO or buying the DVDs are the only legal options. Both are well worth it.
I won’t suggest downloading it via illegal means, per the rules of this board, but just as an FYI - the creators themselves have said that they don’t mind pirating and that they think it’s helped their show overall.
Presumably, they aren’t the copyright holders though.
Amazon should be a legal route - we have Season 1 in our library there. But if it’s glitchy for you, that’s no good.
Netflix doesn’t have it on streaming of course, but if you have a streaming-only plan, here’s my suggestion: sign up for the free 1-month trial for mailed DVDs, and settle down for an orgy of GoT watching.
It will take a whole lot longer than a month to get the GoT discs from Netflix.
Well, there’s also getting the DVDs from Netflix’s DVD-by-mail service and a co-worker got the first series from the public library.
Thanks guys. I’m looking forward to a GOT orgy. I did that with Breaking Bad, watched 4 season worth on Netflix in about 6 days. Like a meth bender.
Yup, if you don’t wanna pay, I’d get 'em from your local library. Start at the beginning and see 'em all. Definitely not the kind of show you want to jump around in.
Yup. Plot details are intricate all the way.
I like the show, but I’m not too obsessed like most other fans. I’m up for an occasional discussion.
Libraries are a good choice. It might be better to borrow a dvd set from friends, or better yet a GOT get together with friends.
Get togethers with friends usually lead to good discussions; serious and funny.
My local library has both seasons. The first one has 83 reserves, the second 57, so it’ll be awhile before they’re available.
I don’t currently have HBO, but are they available on demand? It might be worth signing up for a month or two and catch them that way.
I’m the same position - I’d like to start watching from the first episode instead of a third of the way into the second season…
JohnGalt, find out if your cable company offers HBOGo. It’s an online streaming service that is included with your HBO subscription that offers every episode of every HBO series and some movies and documentaries, too.
I just checked the Comcast On Demand service for Game of Thrones. On my cable box, it’s offering all of season two and as much of season three as has aired. So not the first season, although you could, as suggested, watch that through the HBOGo service.
I just did this with GOT starting mid April. I had HBOgo and watched about two episodes a day.
I’m not that good with names (GOT has a lot of them) and don’t always catch everything the first time around so my viewing habit was to watch an episode and then read the wikipedia plot summary for that episode. A lot of times reading the summary afterwards ended up with an “Oooohhh, so that’s who that was, so that’s where they were, that’s what they were trying to do, etc.”
Great series. The one a week pacing is killing me though after the two week marathon.
