It’s a short-term win for them, really. They have a House seat all sewn up for the time being. Just ignore his lies and “omissions” and keep on going.
Bill and Hillary chose… wisely. They didn’t choose a criminal congressman. They chose a criminal congressman.
This guy is going to be a complete thorn in the GOP’s side for two years because of his criminal exposure alone.
(Seriously, though, I bet it’s more mundane - very likely this guy was running a con on some Non-American (NA) deci-millionaire, selling the NA on the idea that if the NA funds his Congressional run, the NA will gain influence in Congress. Santos possibly didn’t expect to win, he was just… grifting. As he always grifted. And, like many, he found fertile grifting fields on the Right.)
You spelled “Russian” wrong.
I want to go on the record, with zero solid evidence at this point, that it will come out that Santos is a Russian stooge, funded and bought and wholly paid for by the Kremlin.
And some folks will say that is perfectly OK, because the voters chose him, and they are always right (except when they choose a Democrat, because that means they cheated)
He’s the only former Pope and retired Brazilian astronaut in the U.S. House, so I think that gives him additional credibility.
I swear, if this is revealed to all be Sasha Baron Cohen’s next project…
This summer, an unprincipled monster’s act is showcased for all in — “Ogre’s Onstage!”
I’d think “someone that he lied to in order to secure financial backing” would be on the short list. I could be, and very possibly am, incorrect. But I do think that before spending too much energy trying to figure out who would bankroll this guy and what their angle is, it’s worth considering that he may very well have just told potential donors what they wanted to hear so they’d give him money.
While it seems like everyone that’s known him for more than a short amount of time figures out he’s little more than a con man, I could see him bumping elbows with the elite at cocktail parties and making promises that he may or may not be able to keep.
I have to think that’s part of the reason why they’re not ousting him (or keeping him off of committees). We’ve learned from Trump and Musk that if you create a big enough distraction, people don’t notice what’s going on in the background. As long as there’s a steady stream of accusations against him, he’ll keep the public focused on him instead of everyone else. Like a rodeo clown.
I made the same suggestion for why so many RWNJs managed to land spots on the same committee. That committee (or those committees as the case may be) will end up with so much in fighting they’re not likely to get any thing done, and, at the same time, create a ton of sound bytes, video clips, light night fodder, SNL skits, memes etc which will keep the world distracted from what the grown ups are doing. If that’s the case, my question would be did McCarthy do that on purpose so the Rs can own the libs or did he do it so the R’s and D’s can actually, at least semi amicably, work together?
I predict that Netflix will eventually produce a limited series about him. Probably not while he’s still in office, but after that, it might not take them long to get it going.
Get it going? They’ve got a rough script (that keeps getting added to with every new revelation).
And Eugenio Derbez has been short-listed to play “a.k.a. George”.
Yeah, you’re probably right!
At least, not as good as he can.
This elicited a genuine Laugh Out Loud, so thank you.
Introducing… Kitara Revanche! (with photos!)
I don’t know why he’s denying it. It’s a truthful addition to his résumé.
Well, he can’t be having that, now can he. It would destroy his reputation.
NYTimes gift link. The article lays out what seems to me to be a solid case of securities fraud. The fraud-ee seems like a lovely character but he did testify under oath. If it sounds to good to be true (16% returns), it probably is.
Check out the person walking up the stairs about 30 seconds in:
