Or who you’ve been listening to/watching. Born and (mostly) raised south of the Mason-Dixon line by native Hoosiers, I’ve been exposed to a mixed bag. If you watched Ken Burns, you know the cause was slavery. If you read history from the south, it was all about states’ rights (until you realize many in the south didn’t want the northern states to have the right to protect runaway slaves.)

45, so probably passing by most measures, but not up to my usual standards. Some questions I got right because I grew up in Virginia, the Tar Heel one because I live in North Carolina, and most of the rest because of random bits of trivia sticking in my brain. I’m pretty surprised by the actual end date of the war. Also the slavery or states rights question was pretty loaded. In rural Virginia I was taught in history class in the 80s that the cause was states rights but even as a 7th grader I knew that was bullshit, and the very presence of the question made me furious.
