How well do the self-parking cars work?

For a while there was a car that said it would parallel park for you. I haven’t seen any adverts for it in a while, so it made me wonder if the thing worked.

There was a demonstration of one on BBC’s Top Gear a couple of seasons (obCommonwealth: series) ago (BBC America seems to be a season or so behind what’s shown in the UK).

To judge from the demo, it did better than the first time I ever tried parallel parking, but not as well as I can now. Make of that what you will.
