The biggest scandal I can imagine Tebow getting caught up in is a divorce. Even that seems unlikely.
Right there with you buddy! Go Dawgs!
For a loss of 5 on first down!
Yes, on the Superbowl XLIII on national television, horrible pass intercepted on the touchdown line, returned by Pittsburgh 100 yards, Steelers won…
Hey, you didn’t specify what kind of public disgrace!
You know…Harrison may be a thug on the field, but that was still a hell of a play.
Yeah, I’m kind of surprised that Theophane thinks Tebow was a high school bully. Doesn’t seem the type.
If he is the sort of guy to have bullied kids in school, he deserves all the scorn we can heap on him (and hasn’t gotten enough on any of the threads devoted to him).
…when he is caught sneaking around with Julia Mancuso!
He won’t, in all likelihood because** he simply won’t be in the public eye long enough for it to matter.**
It’s neat that he’s won a bunch of games and that Denver has cleverly used his strengths in a way that has taken their opponents by surprise, but the surprise will wear off and Tebow just doesn’t throw well enough to be an NFL quarterback; even the passing success he’s had has been absurdly lucky. His career as a starter will be over in 3-4 years, tops, and he doesn’t throw well enough to play in the CFL, so that’ll be it. He’ll hang around as a backup for a few years, but people don’t notice backups. As he’s uncommonly reckless and rush-dependent, he’s also even likelier than the usual QB to get injured.
As he doesn’t strike me as an unusually bright young man, coaching is likely not in his future. He’ll quietly retire at 30 years old, largely forgotten, and go into civvie life. If he ever screws up it’ll probably be when he’s a preacher or a salesman or something.
ETA: Of course, someone could wise up and, when he fails as a QB, make him a running back, thereby extending his career.
I highly doubt Tim Tebow was much of a high school bully at all. Brown noser and teacher’s pet, maybe. Pushy with his religious beliefs, probably. Picking on weaker kids, no way.
I may disagree with his beliefs and how he parades them around, but I really believe that he is unfailingly sincere about them. Being a bully would run directly counter to those beliefs.
I disagree, because I think Tebowmania is strong enough to push him into politics.
It’s kind of hard to be a school bully when you’re homeschooled.
Wow…I knew that. And I completely forgot it.
Whenever someone says that about an athlete it never happens.
Even if it’s his bag, and I really doubt it, Tebow will be out of football long before he’s old enough to be a serious politician. It’s one thing to be a veteran of 15 years with a string of awards and championships retiring at 40. That could could turn into a politician. Tebow will retire at 30, after two years of not playing, with no awards or championships, and nobody will care about him anymore.
Homeschooled kids aren’t in solitary confinement. In fact
This is from his wiki page. He could have easily been a high school bully and with his background it was likely LGBT kids not necessarily weak ones he victimized.
I still kinda doubt it because I’ve never heard anything like that about him but it’s possible and Theophane hasn’t revealed his sources so who knows?
Yes, he went after school was out to practices and games.
Oh, well, it is a nice theory with a complete lack of evidence. Maybe Timmy got bullied by his linemen and the LGBT kids?
Maybe, but that’s still no excuse for him to go bullying other kids.
Think there’s a lot of openly LGBT kids hanging around the football field?
Some might be in the band. Others surely would be at the games, at parties, at the mall, in his neighborhood, in friends neighborhoods etc. It’s been a long time since I was in high school but surely things haven’t changed that much. I knew lots of kids at 2 or 3 other high schools in my town that I never saw in school but I would run into in other places. Home school kids aren’t kept in a cage and only let loose on friday nights. Jeez.
Yeah, but Tim Tebow might have been the one kept in the cage, so to speak. I’m sure his parents limited his interactions with people not of a similar mindset as they were. I just don’t know if he got a lot of opportunity to socialize with either non-evangelicals or non-football players.
People, please! Pay attention…
Y’know, let’s look at what it was that Theophane wrote:
(emphasis added)
Notice, that Theophane’s exact words are NOT accusing Tim Tebow specifically of having been a bully. But rather he seems to be using him as exemplar of some sort of “type”. The statement is to the effect that the Tebow-haters are motivated by envy “probably” combined with having been bullied by some “popular jock” type. Which ironically seems to convey a feeling or belief that a religious “popular jock” somehow is the most probable profile for a bully. Me, I’m going to go with that Theophane does NOT have any info about bullying by Tebow, he just threw the wastematter out there and we’re letting it stick.
As mentioned all along the thread, of course, people do often fall into the presumption that anyone and everyone with a prominent image of piety or righteousness has got to be some sort of clay-footed phony who is due for eventual comeuppance. But really, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar - and a preachy believer is just a preachy believer.
Hey, Katy Perry might be ready to go back to clean-cut Christian boys.
