Vince McMahon announced the revival of the XFL recently. It’s set to launch in 2020.
How do you think it’ll do? Do you think it’ll at least do better than last time?
It’s pretty much the most perverse revival ever. The first XFL was supposed to be irreverent, showy, and street as a counterpoint to the stuffy old NFL that was made for old white guys. The new version is apparently going to be designed for old white guy Trump supporters as a counterpoint to the disrespectful too black NFL.
I think it will bomb horribly as well.
I don’t see how they’ve fixed the main problem they had the first time: the entire league is comprised 100% of players, coaches, and staff who couldn’t cut it in the NFL, college, Canada, or even the Arena League. What they’re left with is a “talent” pool that’s been more picked over than a Thanksgiving turkey on Cyber Monday.
Not only that, because they’re “making football great again,” whatever the fuck that means, they’re actually blackballing any player that’s ever been arrested for anything, which further diminishes the talent pool to about 5 guys. I’m just waiting for the “whites only” policy then we can kill this thing off right away.
Yeah, it will probably fail. Again. Nobody is going to be able to compete against the NFL. Are they going to build billion dollar stadiums? Of course not. Will they have the best players in the world? We know they won’t.
Look at Arena Football. It’s damn fun to watch, the games are actually exciting. But they’re not competing with the NFL. And something tells me Vince won’t be satisfied with just finding a little niche market.
