XFL News

It looks like Vince MacMahon is going to try to clothe his teams with the remains from the AAF. for the low, low price of $375,000.

The eight teams so far are Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, St. Louis, Seattle, Tampa Bay and Washington D.C.-no team names yet as far as I know.

it would be simpler for the investors in that league to simply flush their cash down the toilet since no way does it work.

How about the Cowboys, the Texans, the Rams, the Giants, the Seahawks, the Buccaneers, and the Redskins?

It seems like the XFL is aiming for failure if it’s trying to start up teams in cities that already have NFL teams. St Louis is probably the only city on the list that wants an XFL team.

Old thread in case anyone needs to get caught up.

Mainly, I’d just like to have some news. So far there’s been a whole lot of grandiose plans and assurances and chest thumping and gauntlets being thrown and outs being called with virtually no real idea of what Vinny Mac is doing that’s will give this thing more than a shave ice’s chance in Kilauea. The only thing that’s been cause for any assurance whatsoever is that he wants to correct the mistakes of the NFL. How? How does he prevent bad calls that affect games? Dirty players? Serious long-term injuries? Off-the-field embarrassments? What is his plan A, and what does he do when plan A inevitably fails?

News? Heck, I’m barely aware of any buzz at all, but from what I have been able to pick up, no one’s buying this; no one has any faith in Vince. The most positive thing anyone has said is if he learned from his mistakes, if he can provide a fun and open game, if he can get talent, if a big network backs him, if, if, if, if. He is old, hidebound, and complacent. He’s had nearly everything handed to him on a silver platter (still can’t believe what an absolute joke the prosecution in the steroid case was), and the extremely few times he had to fight fair, he got his butt handed to him. Remember how a goddam animal rights group forced him to change the name of the company? Nothing about his history, personality, or work ethic should give anyone any confidence that he has a clue how to create a successful sports league.

But hey, at least he got the unis. Now he just needs guys to put them on. “Never been arrested”…yeesh.

Vince is convinced that he knows what went wrong the first time. He thinks it was the pressure to provide ‘Sports Entertainment’ in the televised games in order to produce ratings. So now he’s not going to have real announcers, no clowning around, and make the competition serious.

The rest of his reasoning is meaningless. Unlike the NFL he’ll control every aspect of the league and he thinks he can make changes on the fly like he does in wrestling to improve the game.

Obviously this does not take into account the public’s lack of desire for any more football in any form.

The big stick the NFL has is to threaten to kick a player out of the NFL. MacMahon doesn’t have that stick; the XFL can’t afford to be picky like the NFL can. The reality is that the XFL will be taking a lot of players who were rejected by the NFL as potential problems.
