And the last one isn’t a positive achievement - it was Trump giving away a major negotiating chip which could have been used in Israel-Palestinian peace talks and getting nothing in return but an ego boost. Nice job, Mr. “Art of the Deal”.
That wasn’t the goal?
Not that major. Don’t get me wrong - Israel regarded the world’s refusal to recognize Jerusalem as its capital an insult and an annoyance, but for all effects and purposes, it’s been the capital since 1949 and whether or not the rest of the world recognizes it has very little real-life impact. All the embassy move did was made Israelis happy for a few days.
Oh, and next time I renew my U.S. passport, my country of birth will say “Israel” rather than “Jerusalem” like it does now. Big whoop.
Okay, “major” is an overstatement but it was still a bargaining chip that was given away for nothing of value to either the US or to achieve a peace agreement. There’s a reason none of the previous four presidents had done this.
Personally, I think Trump will be akin to R.E. Lee or Jefferson Davis. By actual, real, factually based history, they’ll be remembered as traitors who declared war against the US. But his followers will try to build up his memory, make him appear better than the reality, just like confederates did with Lee. Certain segments of the population are unreachable by facts or reality, and in those populations, Trump will be a symbol of a guy standing his ground against the hated liberals. While in the real history, he’ll be viewed as a con man who popularity selling aggrieved politics to the stupid.
I don’t think any of them were positive achievements. But they are real achievements he takes credit for when he makes the claim he’s done more in 4 years than any other president. From my viewpoint, he mostly tweets and golfs.
I am thinking of the scene from Game of Thrones, where Viserys is given a Golden Crown of Death.
