HP & Chamber: How are deleted scenes?

While I twiddle my thumbs waiting for my copy to arrive, I’d enjoy hearing what you think of the deleted Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets scenes. Are they up to the movie’s standard, or was the decision to delete them good editorial sense?

Just watched them 5 minutes ago, funny you should mention.
A few of them are just slightly altered versions of the scenes that were in, a couple are just “extra material” such as a little more quiddich etc. One or two related to the “back-story”, tackling for example the caretakers Squib status and the Malfoy familys little “souvenirs”. The clips range from about 3 seconds to maybe 3 minutes.

I felt that in most cases they were better left out, since the movie series seems to be going for action as opposed to the full story, if they had included only snippets of the “big picture” it would have been confusing. For example I think that it is completely unclear in the films that Voldemort is anything more than the boogieman, or the bad guy. That there was a time when he ruled and people were aligned to him is left very unclear.

One clip that should absolutly have been left in is the one with Colin Creevey (sp), I will let you see that one yourself

So, my summary is 90% of them were right to be left out, even if most of them were quite good anyhow.

I thought the scene where Malfoy was pawning some of his forbidden artifacts was important, and should have been left in to explain some of that family’s story.

Thankfully, you don’t have to find them. Warner has learned its lesson.

Unlike Sorceror’s Stone, the scenes that were deleted from Chamber are, for the most part, not critical.

I think the Borgin & Burke scene should have been left in. More Malfoy eeeevil is always a good thing!

I’m ambivalent about the deleted scenes with the Hufflepuffs - they’re important to the story, but the acting is a bit below par.

The atmospheric shot with Hedwig was better left out, IMHO.

Just watched them, and my partner and I agree that we saw several of them in context when we watched it in the theater (though they weren’t on the DVD version)–e.g., the Malfoys. Was the film released with different cuts in different venues?
