For those of you who have owned this make of phone, do you think it is generally better value for money when compared to an iPhone or some such thing?

Mine sucked. I had it less than a month, and the alpha keyboard disappeared.

I ended up getting one for a while after my good phone was stolen. Huge POS in every department. Never had such a craptacular phone before or since.

I work for a telco and we want nothing to do with them, there are cheaper android phones out there from Samsung etc that are miles better. Also look at refurb iPhones.

Mine is working fine, bigger and thinner than teh Iphone 5, for about a third of the price.

I have a Huawei Ideos X5.

It… well… it’s not great?
We have 40 of them, left over from a research project, so every time one breaks I just grab a new one and pop in my SIM. I’m on number 5 or something. While it works, it’s fine. It does what it’s supposed to do, calls, apps, all that. None of them have been able to stay connected to wifi, once they go to sleep they forget to get new messages etc. This is more than a little annoying, but might be better on newer models. They seem to be quite bouncy, which is a good thing in a phone, AFAIAC. It’s fairly speedy, except in the cold. Eventually the screen stops reacting, and I get a new one from the big box.

I wouldn’t say it’s better value than an iPhone. They’re just not as good, but cheaper.

The one I have now has a sticker on it saying “hyena”, and a little kid on the train asked me if that was my name. :mad: But I guess I can’t blame Huawei for that. The research project labelled all the phones as zoo animals.

Sounds like it’s worth every cent you paid for it.

I don’t know what they cost? I can’t afford to buy any kind of phone tbh, so I’m not sure how to answer. I can imagine that this sort of thing is the only thing that I can afford, so I would probably buy this or a similar price/quality.

While of course life used to be fine without a smartphone, now I’m used to whatsapp, checking my diary and the train times and can no longer do without. So I probably would buy this phone, but not for any other reason than the price.
